Description
Acyclovir (Zovirax) by John Lee is a selective, antiviral drug, a nucleoside analogue related to cytarabine, idoxuridine, trifluridine and vidarabine, active against 4 types of herpes virus (herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, chickenpox (type 3), cytomegalovirus (type 4)). It slows down the growth and spread of the herpes virus in the body by affecting their viral cells at the DNA level. This drug does not cure herpes completely, but it reduces the symptoms of the infection and its acute course. You can easily buy this drug in our anabolic steroid shop.
Effects of Acyclovir
Acyclovir is used both for therapeutic treatment and for the prevention of relapses. It is effective in eliminating skin rashes and inflammation around the skin, inhibiting the spread of the viral agent (semination) and reducing herpes complications.
Treatment with acyclovir is most effective when started early, especially for non-primary infections, which tend to be of shorter duration than a primary episode. Long-term prophylactic oral administration of acyclovir in patients with frequent episodes of genital herpes simplex completely suppresses relapses in most patients; as in other acyclovir-responsive infections, the viral latency period is not eradicated, and the rate of relapses before treatment returns after discontinuation.
How to take Acyclovir tablets
Take Acyclovir exactly as described in the instructions. Do not use the drug in doses that do not comply with the instructions and do not exceed the permitted duration of use.
The calculation of the administered dose of Acyclovir depends on the weight category (especially important in children). For weight loss or weight gain, the dose may vary.
During treatment with Acyclovir, it is important to drink as much fluid as possible (drinking water) to keep the kidneys functioning properly.
On average the shingles typical dosage is 800mg every 4 hours, five times per day for 7–10 days. Genital herpes typical initial dosage is 200mg every 4 hours, five times per day, for 10 days. Typical dosage for prevention of recurrent herpes is 400 mg twice per day, every day for up to 12 months.
If a course of treatment with Acyclovir is established, it is important to stick to it, even if your symptoms improve after the first days of use, as interrupted treatment or missed doses may increase the risk of the virus becoming resistant to acyclovir and the risk of frequent relapses. The half-life of Acyclovir around 2.5 to 4 hours so in order for the medication to be effective, it needs to be taken every few hours to sustain its concentration in the bloodstream.
Acyclovir side effects
The most common adverse reactions associated with the use of Acyclovir are headache and nausea. In rare cases, neurological adverse reactions have also been reported, as well as itchy skin with extensive red rashes and rapid fatigue. Patients with a history of impaired renal function are at increased risk of these effects. In the cases studied, these reactions have usually regressed after discontinuation of treatment.
