Fertigyn HP 5000 is an injectable human chorionic gonadotropin produced by Sun Pharma. The active substance is HCG in a highly purified form, which is what the "HP" in the name stands for. Each pack contains one vial of 5000 IU, supplied as a freeze-dried powder that is reconstituted with a sterile diluent before injection.
What HCG Is and How It Works
HCG is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. Its structure is very close to that of luteinising hormone (LH), and it binds to the same receptor. In men, LH is the signal from the pituitary gland that tells the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone. HCG imitates this signal directly at the testes.
In medicine, HCG is used in fertility treatment to trigger ovulation, to treat men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and in some cases of undescended testes in boys. Because it acts on the testes rather than on the brain, it can keep them working even when the body's own LH production has been shut down.
Why Fertigyn HP 5000 Is Used in Sport
Anabolic steroids suppress the natural release of LH, and without that signal the testes shrink and stop producing testosterone. HCG is used to bridge this gap. The main reasons athletes use it are:
- helping to maintain testicular size and function during longer steroid cycles;
- keeping the testes responsive so natural production can restart sooner after a cycle;
- supporting sperm production, which is suppressed by exogenous androgens;
- forming part of a planned recovery approach when combined with other post-cycle medicines.
HCG on its own does not restore the brain's signal, so it is normally one part of a wider plan rather than a complete solution.
Use and Safety
Fertigyn HP 5000 is intended for adults. It should not be used by people with hormone-dependent tumours such as prostate or testicular cancer, with untreated thyroid or adrenal disorders, or with a known allergy to gonadotropins. Women using HCG outside a fertility clinic risk ovarian hyperstimulation.
The dose, frequency and length of use should be decided with a qualified medical professional, ideally guided by blood tests for testosterone and oestradiol. Once mixed, the solution should be stored as the pack leaflet directs and handled with sterile technique, with a new needle for every injection.
Possible Side Effects
HCG raises testosterone, and some of that testosterone is converted to oestrogen. As a result, the most common side effects are hormonal:
- water retention and bloating;
- tenderness or swelling of breast tissue, and in some cases gynaecomastia;
- acne and oily skin;
- headache, tiredness and mood changes;
- pain, redness or swelling at the injection site.
Excessive amounts can make the testes less sensitive to the hormone. Monitoring hormone levels and keeping oestrogen in check helps keep these effects under control.
